PROBLEM STATEMENT
PROBLEM STATEMENT
During tournaments, organizers struggle with managing teams, updating match results, and tracking progression efficiently. Manual processes and scattered tools cause delays and miscommunication, frustrating team owners and affecting tournament flow.

Research
Due to constraint in budget allocation, we decided to proceed with a secondary research.
Secondary research methods—competitor analysis and user listening via open communities like Reddit—revealed key pain points. Three user groups were identified and placed on a scale from most to least important to our project goals, as shown below:

Overview
Unlike existing solutions that bundle unnecessary features like payments and score tracking, this app focuses solely on tournament structuring. The overall process of this project is not from point A to B, but a constant iteration from one point to another.

Structuring
The app structure was organized to reflect user needs, ensuring:
Organizers could create and manage tournaments easily.
Team owners could update team details without friction.
Players had a clear, accessible way to view their team’s journey

Initial Concepts
Initial Concepts
During the ideation phase, low-fidelity wireframes were created to visualize core functionalities and user interactions before committing to high-fidelity designs. These helped refine the user experience by allowing quicker iterations based on feedbacks from team, potential users before moving to detailed UI design and there were multiple changes where even some concepts were discontinued.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Cross-functional collaboration is crucial: Working with different teams reinforced the need for structured design handoffs and clear communication.
User research should include larger samples: While secondary research was helpful, direct user testing would have provided more accurate insights.
Tournament management is more complex than expected: Organizers currently use fragmented tools, and a centralized solution significantly improves efficiency.
Scalability must be considered early: The initial design was too feature-heavy. Focusing on an MVP first helped streamline the approach.

I had the fortune and privilege to work with Joute in projects that were both, demanding and highly valuable. Joute was always the person that brought sense to many parts of the design.
As a designer, he is excellent. As a team player, outstanding. He was always ready for changes and took most of the sudden requests with ease. He is definitely a designer you want to have working with you.
